JUDGE PIPER GRIFFIN – Candidate for the 7th District Louisiana State Supreme Court

Judge Griffin was raised in New Orleans. After earning a Bachelor of Arts in Government from the University of Notre Dame, she returned to Louisiana to attend LSU Law School. She graduated from Law school in 1987 and was admitted to the bar the same year. Judge Griffin practiced civil litigation for 15 years as a trial lawyer involving complex casualty litigation including product liability, workers compensation, personal injury, construction litigation, and employment relations at both state and federal courts throughout Louisiana. She was the first African American female Louisiana Bar Examiner, writing the Constitutional Law Bar Exam.

Judge Griffin was elected to the Orleans Parish Civil District Court in 2001 and has served there for nearly 20 years, previously serving as Chief Judge. Her extensive experience as a trial judge has afforded her a keen insight into effectively interpreting policies and laws and understanding how people’s lives are impacted by verdicts rendered.

Recognized as a judicial pacesetter, Judge Griffin is a legal scholar who has taught both judges and attorneys at continuing legal education seminars. A frequent community and continuing legal education speaker with a strong commitment to service, Judge Griffin passionately serves on numerous boards and has been a member of various professional, educational, civic, and community organizations.
