Born and raised on America Street in New Orleans East, Keva Landrum is a graduate of Ursuline Academy, Washington University in St. Louis, and earned a law degree from Tulane University. She learned early on the value of looking out for your community, the importance of public service, and respect for others. Keva knew as early as the 2nd grade that she wanted a career protecting her community and she has spent her entire professional career fighting for the rights of victims.
Keva has prosecuted violent criminals, held police officers accountable for misconduct, and protected the rights of women who were victims of sexual assault and rape. In fact, Keva Landrum is the only candidate in the race for District Attorney that has protected this community from violent crime. Keva served as a prosecutor for 12 years and tried over 100 jury trials – with many cases involving violent crimes perpetrated against unarmed citizens. She has been on the side of victims and the community as a public servant for the majority of her career.
Keva went on to serve as Interim District Attorney in 2007 – the first female District Attorney in Louisiana. During her tenure, Keva effectively led the District Attorney’s office. Her term culminated with the referral of the Danziger Bridge case to federal prosecutors where seven New Orleans police officers were indicted for shooting citizens in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
In 2008, Judge Keva Landrum was elected to serve in Criminal District Court and in 2017 was selected as the Chief Judge of Criminal District Court – the first African-American woman to serve in the post. As Chief Judge, Keva led court efforts to implement criminal justice reform policies.
